FISHKILL –  Bernard J. O'Neill, 82, a resident of Dutchess County since 1993, formerly of the Bronx and Northern Ireland, died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday, August 26, 2009.
In 1988, he retired as a Station Supervisor for the New York City Transit Authority after 16 years of service.  He had previously worked for I.B.M. in Manhattan.  Bernard was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill.
Born in County Armagh, Northern Ireland on September 1, 1926, Bernard was the son of the late Bernard and Mary Callen O'Neill.  In 1953, he married Mary McGourty at St. Jerome's Church in the Bronx.
In addition to his wife, Bernard is also survived by his daughter, Mary Seckin & her husband Sabri of Staten Island; his son, Bernard O'Neill & his wife Brenda of Northern Ireland; his son, Shane O'Neill and his wife Michelle of Yorktown Heights; his daughter, Patricia Cartelli & her husband Jeffrey of LaGrangeville; his daughter, Joan Cabrera & her husband Wilfredo of Richmond, VA; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his son Kevin O'Neill in 2006, his daughter-in-law Jenny O'Neill in 2005, as well as his brother and sister, Charlie and Joan O'Neill.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 103 Jackson St., Fishkill.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
