Obituary

Bernard T. Tarpey, 86, passed away at home with his children by his side on Wednesday, June 11, 2014.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Bernard moved to Croton-on-Hudson where he and his wife, Joan, raised their family. For 41 years, he worked for Metro North (NY Central, Penn Central, Conrail), retiring as Director of Training. Bernard was a 50 year member of the Croton Volunteer Fire Department, serving in the capacity of Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, and Captain of the Harmon Engine Company and was also a member of the VFW Post 5197 in Croton.

Bernard was a wonderful and devoted husband and father, and was well respected and admired both at work and in the community. He will be missed tremendously by those who knew and loved him.

Bernard was predeceased by his wife, Joan L. (Porter) Tarpey, of over 60 years on November 21, 2013. He is survived by his children, Deborah Dickey and her husband Andrew of Croton, Brian Tarpey and his wife Judith of Hopewell Junction, Kevin Tarpey and his wife Luisa of Poughquag, and Leanne Tarpey Westhoff of Poughquag; his grandchildren, Brian, Timmy, Mark, Kara, Miranda, and Ryan; his great-grandchildren, Christian, Austin, Madison, Abigail, Charlotte, and Lily; his sister, Marie Christ; and his brother John Tarpey. He was predeceased by his brother, George Tarpey and his sister, Millie Denniston.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 3 pm at St. Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville.
