HOPEWELL JUNCTION - Bernice Renee Carroll Stranahan, 80, an area resident since 1986, passed away on October 17, 2025 at Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT with her family at her side. She previously lived in Marlboro, NJ and Queens, NY.
Born on February 26, 1945 in Richmond Hill, Queens, Bernice was the daughter of the late James Joseph and Cecilia Patricia (Reynolds) Carroll. In 1969, she wed her beloved husband, the late Frederick Stranahan, at Saint Benedict Joseph Labre Church in Richmond Hill, Queens.
Bernice was a proud graduate of Saint Catherine's Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, New York. She selflessly cared for others as a licensed Registered Nurse for over 50 years, culminating in her retirement from Castle Point VA Medical Center, serving the area veteran community for 22 years.
Bernice was a devoted parishioner at St. Mary, Mother of the Church. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and baking. More than anything, she cherished the time she spent with her family.
In addition to her parents, Bernice was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Fred Stranahan, in 2020. She is survived by her children, Fred Stranahan and his wife Anna of Long Island City, Queens; Brian Stranahan and his wife Christine of Raleigh, NC; Kevin Stranahan and his wife Diana of Trumbull, CT; and Renee Stranahan of Beacon; her grandchildren, Brian, Brendan, Thomas, and Gavin, of Raleigh, NC, and Jax of Trumbull, CT; her sister, Cecilia Morrissey; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 20th from 4 - 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered on Tuesday, October 21st at 10 am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street Fishkill, followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery in Hopewell Junction.
