Obituary

Bette P. Lund, 89, a long-time resident of Hopewell Junction, died on Thursday, December 16, 2010 in Mount Morris, New York.

Born in Manchester, CT on February 18, 1921, she was the daughter of Russel J. and Helen Sherman Paul. She was an Army Nurse during World War II, serving in the 9th Evacuation Hospital in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. She was employed as a registered nurse at the Bowne Tubercular Hospital and then Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, and then was employed as a nurse receptionist for the Hopewell Medical Group for 22 years until her retirement in 1986. Bette was an excellent cook and an exceptional baker. She loved nature, was an avid bird watcher and gardener, and was happiest when walking through fields, woods, and swamps. She especially enjoyed growing orchids. Bette was a leader for the Girl Scouts of America and a member of the Mid Hudson Orchid Society.

In 1948, Bette married Jim Lund who predeceased her in 1981. She is survived by her children, Margaret Ross and her husband Joe of Retsof, David Lund and his wife Linda of Staatsburg and Elizabeth Lee and her husband Brian of Geneseo; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Taylor Holbrook officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell Cemetery.
