Betty Jane Murphy, 79, a resident of Wappingers Falls since 1964 and formerly of Marion, died on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence.

Born in Marion on October 7, 1931, she was the daughter of Raymond and Edith Desyn East. Betty Jane was a self-employed caregiver.

On October 2, 1954, Betty Jane married Michael Murphy who predeceased her on December 28, 1996. She is survived by her children and their families, Michael Murphy, his wife Robin and their sons Raymond and Zachary of Carmel, Colleen Mayer and her children Alanna and Matthew of Newburgh, Erin Hunckler, her husband John and their sons Eric and Scott of DeBary, FL and Douglas Murphy, his wife Laurel and their daughter Jessica of Hughsonville; and her brothers, Gerald East of Marion and Eugene East of Newark. She was predeceased by her sister, Arlene Hubright and her brother, Donald East.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Additional services will be held in Marion, followed by interment in the Marion Cemetery.
