Obituary

FISHKILL - Elizabeth "Betty" Pawelski, 89, died peacefully on January 31, 2023 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. A resident of Fishkill for 14 years, Betty previously lived in Mahopac.

Born on August 4, 1933 in New York City, Betty was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Yaroszeufski) Petrus. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Frank J. Pawelski, in 1997, and her son, Frank Jr., in 2020.

Betty is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Mark Howe and Elizabeth and Richard Mitchell; her grandchildren, Barbara, Mark, Becky, Alyssa, and Lindsey; and her great-grandchildren, Connor, Harris, Brewer, Emma and Sayber.

Betty met the love of her life, Frank, when she was fifteen, and they married several years later. Raising their family in Mahopac, she was a loving and devoted wife and mother who enjoyed gardening, cooking baking and canning vegetables. She was an avid poker player who loved her weekly games with friends, and trips to the Atlantic City casinos with Frank. Betty also had a passion for bowling that spanned nearly sixty years, continuing into her later life, where she played on two senior citizen leagues up until the time of her passing. From their first date, fishing played a large role in Betty and Franks life. They fished in streams, rivers, lakes and oceans. As soon as they came home from one fishing trip, they were planning the next. And of course, in true New York form, she was the world's greatest Mets fan.

To know Betty was to love her. She was smart, kind, generous, and had a heart of gold. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Calling hours will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction on Saturday from 11am - 1pm with a service at 1pm. Burial will follow at the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mahopac.
