Bjarne Vatne, 82, passed away at home in Fishkill on Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
Son of the late Andreas and Mari (Handeland) Vatne, he was born in Norway on September 5, 1939. Bjarne emigrated to the United States as a teenager and settled in Brooklyn, where he resided for many years prior to moving to New Jersey. He has been a resident of the Hudson Valley for over 50 years.
He was a skilled carpenter who owned and operated a hardwood flooring installation company. As a motorcyclist, he rode both Harley Davidson and B.M.W. motorcycles. His other hobbies included billiards and collecting nautical memorabilia. Bjarne also enjoyed traveling, especially trips to reconnect with family and friends in his home country of Norway.
He is survived by two sisters in Norway, Olga Kjostvedt & her husband Cay and Arna Eiken & her husband Ragnar; his sister-in-law, Antje Vatne; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends who reside throughout the U.S. and Norway.
Bjarne was predeceased by his parents as well as three siblings: Ottar Vatne, Olav Vatne & his wife Signe, and Bertha Mydland & her husband Finn.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19th in the Community Mausoleum at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill.
