EAST FISHKILL – Bobby Joe Hawkins, 74, an area resident since 1992, died on January 18, 2022 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Washington, DC on August 15, 1947, he was the son of Robert and Bertha Hawkins. Bobby proudly served our country in the US Army, and was employed as a Correction Officer for the New York State Department of Corrections at Downstate Correctional Facility for 25 years until his retirement in 1996.

Bobby enjoyed playing chess and dominoes, shooting at the range, traveling, and watching western movies. He loved God and also enjoyed good food, especially good Jamaican food.

On September 22, 1999 in Fishkill, Bobby married Madge Edwards who survives at home. He is also survived by his sons, Cordos Hawkins and Jarett Hawkins; his daughter, Danhl Hawkins; his stepdaughter, Susan Mohr and her husband Mark; his stepson, Amando Downer; his grandsons, Gabriel Hawkins and Justin Lewis; his sister, Verna Hawkins; and his great friends, Joanet Johnson, Maud Edwards (aka Loris), Marva Rose, Angela Clarke, Ingrid Hibbert and Sophia Tyrell. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brothers, Stanley, Anthony and Paul Hawkins; and his great friend, Gwendalyn Johnson.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 2 from 11am – 12pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be at 12pm and interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
