Obituary

EAST FISHKILL – Bonnie Luhrs, 60, an area resident since 1978 and formerly of Mamaroneck, died peacefully at her home on January 29, 2024 surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Bronxville on May 18, 1963, she was the daughter of the late Leslie Thomas and Anne (Schumacher) Jackson. Bonnie had worked for many years in the 80s as a lunch monitor at Gayhead Elementary School and as a server for the Cluck Truck. She was raised in the Hopewell Reformed Church and enjoyed fishing and visiting with friends at the Whortlekill Rod & Gun Club. She loved animals and nature, and was often off bug hunting with the kids, taking nature walks, collecting rocks and catching frogs. She also loved sharing her little tricks with the kids like warming blankets in the dryer to stay warm and cozy after a busy day and snuggling up with some peanut butter pretzels and relaxing. She adored her family and friends and would drop everything to help her people.

On January 9, 1982, Bonnie married Joachim "Joe" Luhrs who predeceased her on September 4, 2009. She is survived by her sons, Steven Luhrs and his wife Jennifer, and Mitchell Luhrs and his fiancé Katelyn Croniser; her grandchildren, Annalise, Mason and Jase; her siblings and their spouses, Debbie and Domenico Porco, Ricky and Tracy Jackson, David and Kiesha Jackson, Barbara and Brian Lenz; her father-in-law, Gunther Luhrs; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by her beloved son, Brian Thomas Luhrs, on August 25, 2023; her sister, Kathy Perez on February 11, 2017; and her mother-in-law, Helga Luhrs on December 31, 2014.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 3, from 1-5pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a funeral service at 3pm.
