Brenda Lea Opie, a local area resident for 30 years, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, after a long battle with ALS at the age of 65.
She was born in Tarrytown, NY on April 16, 1957 to her parents, the late Reggie and June (Conklin) Opie.
Brenda was a dedicated worker who served Lakeland Central School District for 24 years, retiring in 2019 from Copper Beech Middle School. She was very family oriented and greatly enjoyed attending family activities and events, especially her nieces' and nephews' extracurricular activities. Brenda loved her dogs Sophie & Henry and had a deep love for all animals and rescuing stray pets.
She is survived by her sister, Lynn Simmons of Poughkeepsie; nephew, Jeffrey Simmons of Poughkeepsie; nephew, Scott Simmons & wife Carla Simmons of Wappingers Falls; great-niece, Emma Simmons of Poughkeepsie; great-nephews, Rome and Titan Simmons of Wappingers Falls; great-niece, Scotlyn Simmons of Wappingers Falls, NY; and her partner, Kathy Stubbs of Beacon, NY; as well as her many family members through Kathy's family; in addition to countless other loving relatives & friends.
Calling hours will be held from 2-6 pm on Sunday, November 20th at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, November 21st at 11 am, followed by interment at Wappingers Falls Rural Cemetery.
