Bridget Garvin (Breda to those who held her dearest) came into this world on February 17,1967 with boundless energy, a memorable sense of humor and the kindest of hearts. She was born and educated through high school in the Bronx. After high school, she attended the Katharine Gibbs School. She then worked for First Boston, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Her colleagues admired her intelligence, organizational skills and work ethic, and often said that talented executive assistants like Breda are the folks who keep the business world spinning.
In her personal life, Breda had an eclectic and treasured group of friends. She was sincerely interested in and curious about everyone she met and generous and kind to her friends and family. She greeted every new experience with gusto and could happily play shortstop in a softball game, organize a 5 state 15 college recruiting trip, sit quietly and hand you tissues while you ugly cried, get you where you needed to go with the aplomb of a New York City Cab driver, or beat the House at a Blackjack game in Atlantic City or the Bahamas. She loved all things Italian and treasured the friends she met on her trips there. She was all in, with her family, her friends and her passions.
Most beloved in her life were her nephews. Thomas, Matthew, Aidan, Andrew, Connor, Robert and Sean were very spoiled by their Aunt Breda. She showered them with time and attention and was always very generous to them. She loved learning about their talents, interests and accomplishments. Breda was predeceased by her nephew Patrick Ryan. She felt his loss acutely and regretted that she did not get to see him grow up.
Like many others, the tragic events of September 11, 2001 left a very tangible imprint on Breda's health and her heart. She began to suffer chronic, debilitating, poorly understood pain from Trigeminal Neuralgia. And yet she still saw the joy in small things. A good movie, a moving song, a delicious meal, a text from a friend or family member. Despite her pain and struggles, she tried to find something good in each day and hoped for a cure.
Breda passed away on March 11, 2020. She leaves behind dear friends and colleagues too numerous to mention. She will be dearly missed by her family: her sister Deb and brother -in-law Ryan, her sister Maureen, her nephews and so many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is predeceased by and in the loving arms of some dear family: her parents, Tom and Bridie Garvin, her nephew Patrick Ryan, and her brother-in -law Harry. Arrangements for a funeral Mass of Christian Burial are in process.
We are left to treasure the lessons Breda taught us: love with all your heart, live with gusto, never give up hope.
