Bruce E. Bachman, 87, a local resident for fifty-seven years, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center with his son by his side. Born December 15, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Irma Bachman. Bruce honored his country at a young age by serving in the U.S. Army and then he shifted his focus to his education. He graduated from three colleges: Franklin & Marshall College, R.P.I. and he received his Masters Degree at Drexel University. On May 7, 1960, in Philadelphia, PA, Bruce married the love of his life, Marlene Dietrich. Bruce and Marlene grew up in their childhood living right across the street from each other and would go on to celebrate a milestone of sixty years of marriage in May 2020. Bruce began his career in Baltimore, MD at The Martin Marietta Corporation. He was responsible for introducing transistorized circuit design. He was the Lead Engineer on a revolutionary sonar system for the U.S. Navy. Bruce spent one month at sea on The USS Albacore, a research submarine designed by the U.S. Navy, to test the sonar and other experimental features now used in modern submarines. Bruce relocated with his family to the Hudson Valley, NY area in 1964 where he would spend the rest of his life. He began his employment at I.B.M. Poughkeepsie in 1964, working in storage development. Bruce retired from I.B.M. in 1992 as Senior Engineer and Manager of High End System Storage Development. Bruce was known as "Mr. Fix-it" to all who knew him. He enjoyed repairing appliances, electronics, wiring up lights and would never even consider calling in a repairman. Bruce also enjoyed playing tennis and coaching his son in basketball. Bruce loved his home in Hopewell Junction, NY and would often be seen working outside in the yard. He and Marlene would lend their home out to host Poughkeepsie Women's Coterie Club parties and Little Switzerland Neighborhood Association Events. They proudly hosted a Christmas Eve open house for family and friends for thirty years. Bruce had a second home in Myrtle Beach, SC and enjoyed vacationing there for several months out of the year after his retirement. Bruce is survived by his dear son, Eric Bachman, of Fishkill, NY and his fiancé, Maria Aponte. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Marlene (2020) and his daughter, Sharon Bachman Skarshinski (2014). The Family would like to thank Dr. Edward K. Schneider of Southern Dutchess Family Practice for all of his care over the years. Funeral arrangements will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc.
