Cara Antonia Handel

Cara Antonia Rizzuto Handel, 51, a resident of Aynor, SC since March and formerly of Hopewell Junction, NY, passed away on July 14, 2026.

Born in the Bronx on September 25, 1974, she was the cherished daughter of Joseph Rizzuto and the late Rosemary (Licata) Rizzuto.

Cara's life was most importantly defined by her unwavering love for her family. She found joy in every moment spent with her husband, Jeffrey Harris Handel, whom she called her bean. The two married on June 14, 1998, in New Rochelle, NY. Throughout their journey of life, the ups and downs, Jeffrey stuck by Cara's side through thick and thin. Together, they built a warm and nurturing home, where her children, Brett, Brandon, and Ashly, flourished under her care. Cara had a deep love for each one of her children. Proud of their accomplishments, she would be the loudest one cheering for them. It does not go unnoticed how giving and loving Cara was to her husband and children.

Her familial bonds were deepened not only by her role as a mother and wife but also as a loving daughter, and supportive sister to Stephanie Tagliaferri, wife of Michael Tagliaferri, and aunt to their children Hailey and Samantha. She adored all her nieces and their successes in life.

She is also survived by brother in law Richard Handel, husband of Susanne Handel, and their daughters Genna and Julia, and brother in law Robert Handel.

Beyond her family, Cara had a zest for life that included a deep appreciation for animals, she would have a zoo in her backyard if it was possible. She had the joy for travel, often sought out special vacations with loved ones to create cherished memories. She enjoyed shopping and pampering days with her beloved daughter, ultimate best friend and soulmate, Ashly. Cara was a people person, building strong bonds with people in person and over the phone. She had a remarkable ability to connect with those around her and will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and vibrant spirit. Although we find it extremely difficult to navigate this loss, we find comfort in knowing she is finally at peace and no longer in pain, reunited with her loving mother. Cara will be deeply missed by all those who cared most for her.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday July 19th from 2-4pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc,, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. There will be a service at 4pm. Private entombment will take place at Ferncliff Cemetery.
