Carlos Chaluisant, a Wappingers Falls resident since 1996, died after a brief illness on Friday, November 23, 2012 at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel. He was 69.
Son of the late Emilio and Casilda Vega Chaluisant, he was born on December 14, 1942 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. In 1964, Carlos was inducted into the U.S. Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. A decorated veteran, he received several medals in recognition of his service, including the Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1967.
On March 13, 1978, he married Maria D. Cruz in the Bronx. Mrs. Chaluisant survives at home.
Carlos is also survived by three sons, Francisco Gonzalez of Newburgh, Carlos Chaluisan & his wife Alicia of Wappingers Falls, Emilio Chaluisan & his wife Sally of Poughkeepsie; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Aida Faria of Poughquag and Awilda Garcia of Putnam Valley; a brother, Rafael Chaluisan of the Bronx; also many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives & friends
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28 and Thursday, November 29 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 30 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Entombment will be in the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, where the U.S. Army will conduct Military Honors.
