POUGHQUAG – Carmela Clarizio, 75, an area resident since 2000, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Putnam Ridge in Brewster. She formerly lived in College Point, Pleasantville, East Meadow, and the Bronx.
Born in Bari, Italy on August 5, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Alessandro and Domenica Racanelli. On July 4, 1964 in the Bronx, Carmela married Luigi Clarizio who predeceased her on June 13, 2006.
Carmela was a parishioner at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Tina and Steven Buonavita of Oakland and James and Diane Clarizio of Poughquag; her grandchildren, Danielle, James, Michael, and Marc; her eight sisters and brothers, Frank, Chiara, Costanza, Gennaro, Joanne, Antonia, Nick, and Dean. She was also predeceased by two of her siblings, Rose and Martino.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1-5 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10:00 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
