Carmela B. Spence

POUGHKEEPSIE - Carmela Spence, 86, a lifelong area resident, died peacefully at home on May 14, 2026.

Born on August 2, 1939 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, Carmela was the daughter of the late Gennaro and Louise (Poppito) Antedomenico. Carmela was employed as a bookkeeper for many years at several local businesses. She was Baptized, made her First Communion, was Confirmed, was married and her Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Denis Church.

On July 29, 1959, Carmela married James Spence who survives at home after 67 years of marriage. She is also survived by her son, Thomas Spence; her sister, Theresa Clear (Patrick); her nephews, Michael Clear (Kathy), Gregory Clear, Mark Clear (Dawn), Frank Poppito, Paul Poppito, Neil Antedomenico, and Gene Antedomenico; her nieces, Phyllis Tranzillo (Steve), Mary Ann Simson (Andy), Terry Hudak (Joe), Susan Seymor (Gary), and Linda Poppito; and many other nieces and nephews across the country, and all the Antedomenico family.

In addition to her parents, Carmela was also predeceased by her daughter, Julie Spence in 2016.

The family would like to especially thank their aides, Sun-ji, Ruth and Reica for their extraordinary care of Carmela; Hudson Valley Hospice for their outstanding support; and their neighbors and lifelong friends who have been indispensable to Jim and Carmela, especially during the last six weeks.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 20th from 5 - 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered on Thursday, May 21st at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
