BEEKMAN – Carmine Santorello, 82, a resident of the Town of Beekman since 1978 and formerly of Flushing, died on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at his home with his wife, Lucy, at his side.
Born on December 14, 1926 in Flushing, he was the son of Louis and Carmela Sorrentino Santorello. He was employed by the Unites States Postal Service in Flushing and Wappingers Falls for 40 years until his retirement in 1990. For many years, he participated in the Dutchess County Fair exhibiting his flowers. He was also a fabulous cook.
Carmine was a devoted churchgoer and active participant throughout his life. He was a parishioner of St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction and formerly St. Michael's Church in Flushing. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, St. Vincent de Paul Society, C.Y.O., and Third Order of the Franciscans. He had been band director of the St. Michael's Archangels, served as a lector and catechist, and volunteered with the Hearts and Hands Outreach Program at St. Denis Church.
Carmine is survived by his wife, Lucy; his children, Marie Santorello of Laurence Harbor, NJ, Charles Santorello and his wife, Kathi of Shirley, Lucy Coletta and her husband, Robert of Poughquag and Betsy Fisher of Glen Ridge, NJ; his sister, Matilda DiCasa of Montgomery; his grandchildren, Kathleen Coletta, Kerry Zukowski, Kathryn Talbott, Colleen Zukowski, Rob Coletta, Paul Santorello, Samantha Fisher, Regina Fisher, Margaret Santorello, Brian Fisher, Kenneth Coletta and Charlie Santorello; and his great-grandchildren, Zoe Santorello, Shelby Pinola, Meghan Talbott, Adam Talbott, Elizabeth Talbott and Dylan Talbott.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
