EAST FISHKILL – Carol A. Appleholm, 71, an area resident for 33 years and formerly of Yonkers, died on October 20, 2021 surrounded by family in the comfort of her home.
Born in Yonkers on December 19, 1949, she was the daughter of Edward and Mary (Coffey) Ziemer. Carol had been employed as a secretary for the New York State Department of Corrections at Fishkill Correctional Facility for 10 years until her retirement in 2006. She was a parishioner of St. Columba Church.
On July 25, 1970, at Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers, Carol married the love of her life Fred Appleholm. They shared 50 beautiful years of marriage and are now reunited as he predeceased her on June 3, 2020. Following their retirements, they spent many joyous years in the Villages, Florida, or as they referred to "Disney for Adults". She enjoyed playing golf, dancing in the town square, and numerous social activities with many great friends.
Family was of the upmost importance to Carol. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Karen and Al Khan of Mahopac, Lori Olmstead and her companion Donny Morton of Millbrook, Bryon and Cassie Appleholm of East Fishkill, and Kerry Appleholm of Yonkers. She lived for her grandchildren, Courtney, Ryan, Kelly, Hina, Alexis, Aydin, Zayn, Rylie and MacKenzie and spent all of her time being their biggest supporter. She also leaves behind her siblings, Patricia Abrams and Ed Ziemer and his wife Sue; sister in law Patricia and husband Thomas along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Carol was loved by all. She will forever be in all our hearts.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers.
