Carol C. Hertel passed away on June 17, 2025 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 80. Born on August 26, 1944 in the Bronx, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Carmela (Labella) Basile. She spent many happy years with her first husband Richard Graff, until his death in 2002.

Carol was a member of the Hopewell Senior Center which is where she met the second love of her life Charles V. Hertel. Charlie was playing cards and she came over to join him. He asked her out to lunch and they have been together ever since. Carol and Charlie married on June 13, 2010 at St. Columba Church. Just a few days ago, they celebrated their 15th Wedding Anniversary.

Carol and Charlie loved to travel together. They spent their honeymoon in Hawaii, they went on a trip to Ireland, and enjoyed many outings and trips with the Senior Center. They also enjoyed dancing.

Carol was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and was a dedicated parishioner at St. Columba.

Carol is survived by her beloved husband Charlie; her daughters Camille Lithgow and her husband Timothy, and Christina Schneider and her husband Joseph; her grandchildren Joseph C. Schneider and his fiancé Anna Krolewski, Andrew Schneider, Vincent Schneider, and Christianna Schneider; her step-children Charles G. Hertel and his wife Jamie, and Robert Karl Hertel and his wife Ruth; her step-grandchildren Christopher Hertel and his wife Chelsea, Nicholas Hertel and his wife Stephanie, Kayli Rowland and her husband James, and Joshua Hertel; as well as 2 step-great grandchildren Makenna and Austin Hertel.

In addition to her parents, and her first husband Richard Graff, Carol was predeceased by her brother Joseph Basile.

Calling hours will be held on Monday June 23, 2025 from 4-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home 895 Route 82 Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday June 24, 2025 at 10 am at St. Columba Church 835 Route 82 Hopewell Junction, followed by entombment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
