Carol
Werber
May 30, 1943 – December 4, 2025
LAGRANGEVILLE - Carol A. Werber, 82, a lifelong area resident, died on December 4, 2025, surrounded by her family at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born on May 30, 1943, in Brooklyn, Carol was the daughter of the late Dr. John and Eleanor (VanVliet) Schroeder, PhD. She grew up in Pleasant Valley, NY. Carol was raised with a love of horses, travel, and gardening, which her parents and Auntie Emma instilled in her. She attended Arlington Central Schools, Oakwood Friends School, and the Krissler Business Institute. After completing school, Carol took a position at Marist College, where she met the love of her life, James B. Werber.
On September 18, 1965, they were the first couple to be married at the Marist College Chapel in Poughkeepsie, New York, and enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. James survives at home in Lagrangeville, where they built their forever home and raised their two daughters. Carol enjoyed working at Charel's, where she was loved by all due to her kindness, beautiful smile, and her fun and quick sense of humor.
Carol's greatest joy was her family. She adored her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Time spent with family and friends was what truly made her heart happy, and she gave the gift of a "happy heart" to all who knew her!
Carol is also survived by her daughters and their husbands, Kimberley and Jon Papineau of Pleasant Valley and Kathy and Brian Denton of Poughquag; her grandchildren, Stephanie Woodruff and her husband Aaron, James Papineau and his wife Amber, Zachary Denton, and Nicholas Denton; and her great-grandchildren, Aiden and Noah Woodruff and Remi Papineau.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, December 13th, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie. Private Burial will take place at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
