PURLING – Catherine C. Kirwan, 67, a resident of Greene County for 30 years, died on December 11, 2016 at home. She previously lived in the Bronx.

Born in Manhattan on October 1, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Catherine (Corcoran) Hopkins. Catherine was dedicated to her faith, and also liked politics and other current events. She was an avid fan of watching murder mysteries. Most of all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Stephen Kirwan at home; her son, Stephen Kirwan and his fiancée Leanne Smith of Saugerties; her daughter, Christine Benjamin and her husband Brendan of Shokan; her wonderful 3 year old granddaughter, Caterina Benjamin; her siblings, Dorothy Santice, Mary Lanigan, and Thomas Hopkins and his wife Diane; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
