Obituary

WEEKI WACHEE , FL - Catherine "Kathleen" Bridget Powers, 89, died on September 8, 2025 at home. She previously lived in Whiting, NJ.

Born on February 7, 1936 in Derryconnery , Glengarriff , County Cork, Ireland, Kathleen was the daughter of the late William and Julia (Lynch) Sullivan. She retired from Fidelity Bank Corporation in Newark, NJ. On May 9, 1959 at St. Aloysius Church in Jersey City, NJ, she married Patrick Powers who predeceased her in 2012 after 53 years of marriage.

Kathleen is survived by her son, John Patrick Powers (Michelle); her siblings, Patrick Sullivan (Mary), Peggy Sullivan (Harry), and Ann Nolan; her granddaughters, Ashley and Julia; her nephew, Fr. Richard Smith; her nieces, Erin Lakatosh, Claire O'Brien, Olivia Rogers, Julie Sullivan, and Kayleigh Sullivan; her great-nephews who she considered her grandchildren, James and Ryan Lakatosh; and her former daughter-in-law, Claire Powers.

In addition to her husband and parents, Kathleen was also predeceased by her brothers, Mortimer and John; her sisters, Mary and Sheila; and her nephew, Liam.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by her nephew, Fr. Richard Smith and concelebrated by very close family friends, Fr. David Nolan, Fr. Gary Mead, and Fr. Joseph McLafferty at 10:45 am on Thursday, September 18th at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Whiting, NJ. Burial will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown , NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kathleen to Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
