HOPEWELL JUNCTION - Catherine A. Salerno, 80, an area resident since1969, died on February 15, 2025 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She previously lived in Old Forge, PA.

Born on September 21, 1944 in Scranton, PA, Cathy was the daughter of the late Stepehen and Catherine (Macker) Kopko. She worked as a secretary for the New York Power Authority and as an assistant nurse at Gayhead Elementary School for many years. She then earned her nursing degree from Dutchess Community College, and was a Registered Nurse at Putnam Hospital Center for over 17 years until her retirement.

Cathy was a lifetime member of the East Fishkill Rescue Squad, and just recently celebrated 50 years of service, commitment, and dedication. As the squad's longest serving volunteer, she was an EMT, Trustee and Past Lieutenant.

Cathy enjoyed traveling with her partner, Enrico. She liked playing Mahjong with her girlfriends and working out at AllSport. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters.

She is survived by her partner of 17 years, Enrico Stacchini at home; her children, Patrick Salerno and his wife Loren of Danbury, CT, Sean Salerno and his wife Allison of Wappingers Falls, and Michelle Salerno and her husband Paul Saloom of Brewster; her granddaughters, Rachel Anne Salerno Saloom Jackson and her husband Kyle Jackson of Buffalo and Jordan Salerno of Wappingers Falls; her brother, Stephen Kopko and his wife Peg of Old Forge, PA; her nephew, Stephen Kopko and his wife Julia of Clark Summit, PA; and her niece, Maura Kopko and her fiancée Kate Knudson of Redondo Beach, CA.

Calling hours will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction on Thursday, February, 20th from 4 - 8 pm with a Firematic Service at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered on Friday, February 21st at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
