Charles Matthew Blacknick, 92, a resident of Wappingers Falls since June 1, 2011 and formerly of Manhattan , died on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at his home. He has a summer home in Hopewell Junction for more than 50 years.
Born in New York City on February 25, 1919 , he was the son of Charles Blacknick Sr. and Mary Moore. He proudly served our country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and was employed as a Receiving and Shipping Manager for IBM in White Plains and Fishkill. Charles was a parishioner of St. Monica's Church in Manhattan and St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction. He was a member and Past Grand Knight of Lacadera Council #429, Knights of Columbus and a member of the American Legion.
On October 27, 1946 at St. Monica's Church in Manhattan , Charles married Maria Rose Meyer who predeceased him on November 14, 2011 . He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen DeGeorge of Queens , Denise G. Rivera and her husband Rudy of Hopewell Junction and Doreen D. Blacknick of New York City ; his brother, Robert Blacknick of Buffalo ; and his grandchildren, Jason and Jacqueline Rivera. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, Edward, William and Howard Blacknick.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by military honors. Interment will be in St. Denis Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
