Charles D. Kirstein Sr., 89, a resident of Downsville and formerly of Cortlandt Manor, died peacefully on August 18, 2022 at Westchester Medical Center.
Born in Croton on October 18, 1932, he was the son of the late Franz and Ethel (Travis) Kirstein Sr. He proudly served our country in the US Air Force during the Korean War. A master carpenter, Charlie was employed by Carpenters Local #163 in Peekskill.
Charlie was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons for over 50 years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved traveling across the United States and especially loved seeing Alaska. He was a knife collector and knife maker.
On April 22, 1954, Charlie married the love of his life, Suzanne Hard, who survives at home. He is survived by his son, Charles D. Kirstein Jr. (Joyce Furlong) of Cold Spring; his daughter, Janice Kirstein of Wappingers Falls; his granddaughters, Michele Hesselgrave (Raymond Hernandez) of Loxahatchee , FL and Robin Diaz (Daniel Diaz) of Hopewell Junction; his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Dagen and Sienna Hernandez of Loxahatchee, FL, Donovan, Camden and Baylee Diaz of Hopewell Junction; and his sisters, Shirley Knapp and Joyce Cassetta and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his siblings, Clarkson Kirstein, Franz Kirstein Jr., and Evelyn Baxter.
