LAGRANGEVILLE – Charles E. McCann, 70, an area resident since 1979 and formerly of Brooklyn, died on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the Wingate at Dutchess after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Brooklyn on March 18, 1942, he was the son of the late Charles and Mildred (Sala) McCann. On December 18, 1965 in Brooklyn, he married Clare Albano who survives at home.
Charles was employed as a Pinkerton NYRSS for the New York Racing Association in Queens for 37 years until his retirement in 1997. He was a parishioner at Blessed Kateri Church in LaGrangeville and a Life Member of the Trinity Council #445, Knights of Columbus in Beacon. Charles was an avid antique collector and enjoyed hunting.
In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by his children, John Scarfogliero and his wife Marge of Miller Place, Michele Safran and her husband Bob of Beekman, and Stacy McCann of LaGrangeville; his 12 grandchildren, Laura, Jessica, Nikki, and Johnny Scarfogliero, Tanya, Jason, Alan and Anthony Safran, Amber Hastings and her husband Matthew, Philip and Ashley Vossler, and Aleeya McCann; his great-grandchildren, Matthew and Jazmyne Hastings; his sisters, Hazel McCann, Alice McCann, Genieviev Hill, and Edna Walsh; and many nieces and nephews. Charles was looking forward the arrival of two additional great-grandchildren in the upcoming months.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday from 4 – 7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by entombment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
