Charles Edmond "Poppie" Warner died peacefully at home in Poughkeepsie on Sunday, September 23, 2012 surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. He was 84 years old and will be greatly missed by his family.
Charles was born on May 20, 1928 in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY to Charles Warner Sr. and Matilda Baumann. He graduated from Andrew Jackson HS in January 1947. He spent his summers as a teen picking tobacco in Salisbury, CT. He worked for the Kudner Ad Agency until 1950 and then worked for his father at Wright Co. until 1958. He was a salesman for Smith Corona Machines ( S.C.M. Corp ) from March 1959 until his retirement in 1987 working in New York City.
Over the years, he had lived in St. Albans, Queens, Levittown, LI, Calabash, NC and most recently in Poughkeepise. He loved his sports teams, the NY Mets and SF Giants. He was a past president of the Levittown Swimming Association.
Poppie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances Stafford; his daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Gerry Dillmann; his grandchildren, Kerry Dillmann Cutler and her husband Bryce, Douglas Dillmann and his wife Marissa, Kevin Dillmann and his wife Amy, Daniel Dillmann and Kristopher Dillmann; his great grandchildren, Kacie, Landon, Owen and Brooklyn; and many long life time friends.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10am at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie. Final arrangements will be made at the convenience of the family.
