WAPPINGERS FALLS - Clarence Gene Valerio, 90, a resident of Wappingers Falls since 1994 and formerly of Hudson Falls and Hawthorne, died on Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie.
Born in Derby, CT on December 22, 1921, he was the son of the late Getulio and Dina (Pauline) Valerio. On October 3, 1948 in Tuckahoe, Clarence married Joyce Moores of Kingswood, Bristol, England. After 44 years of marriage, Mrs. Valerio predeceased him on June 22, 1993.
Clarence proudly served our country during World War II in the United States Army in the 967th Ordinance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Company. Decorations include America Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
He was employed by Scarsdale Public Schools for 30 years until his retirement in 1982. In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing and following the New York Yankees baseball seasons. He was a parishioner at St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction.
He is survived by his son, Charles Valerio of Stamford; his daughter, Maria SanMarco and her husband Anthony of Wappingers Falls; and his grandchildren, Joyanna Zdrojowy of Hamden, CT and Anthony Gene SanMarco of Wappingers Falls. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his siblings, Enio Valerio, Viola Gaudenzi, Patsy Valerio, and Joseph Valerio.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in Wappingers Rural Cemetery with military honors.
