LAGRANGE - Cora K. "Granny" Cargain, 85, a lifelong area resident, died on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Dover Plains on March 21, 1927, she was the daughter of Wesley and Minnie Benson Dennis. She was raised on her family's farm on Chestnut Ridge Road and was employed as a floor supervisor at the Wassaic State School for 23 years until her retirement in 1983. Granny enjoyed mowing lawn, gardening and woodworking.
Granny is survived by her sons, Butch Cargain and his fiancé, Noreen Hennessy of LaGrangeville and Bob Cargain of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her granddaughter, Melissa Beattie and her husband Bill of Highland; her brothers, Malvin and Sammy Dennis of Canajoharie; her sisters, Shirley Vincent of Dover Plains, Tilly Burhance of Pawling, Linda Camburn of Amenia and Mary Niederkorn of Dover Plains; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William E. Cargain, in 1990; her brothers, Robert and George Dennis; and her sisters, Emma Clark, Catherine (Pat) Boschelli, Marge Dennis, Dorothy (Dot) Cary and Helen Underhill.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 14 at 1 pm at the Verbank Cemetery. Following the graveside service family and friends will be received at Butch and Noreen's residence at 19 Duncan Road, LaGrangeville.
