David Charles Hengst, 21, a resident of Wappingers Falls, died on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at home.
Born in Tarrytown on October 9, 1991, he was the son of Charles and Mary (Cataneo) Hengst. In addition to his parents, David is survived by his sister, Michelle Hengst of North Carolina; his grandfather, Richard Hengst; his aunt, Madeline Bono; and his cousins, Raymond, Tara, Ty, Laura, Christopher, and Sal.
David proudly served our country in the United States Army from 2010 through 2013 as a member of The 10th Mountain Division. An accomplished soldier who served in Afghanistan, he received numerous medals including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Two Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge.
David will always be remembered as a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was very hardworking, and loved serving our nation in the Army. He was very generous, and would do anything for his family and friends.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 am at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill. The United States Army will conduct full military honors.
