Obituary

FISHKILL – David Earl Lucas, Sr. 86, passed away after a successful and fulfilling life on December 17, 2020 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was surrounded by loved ones and comfortable, while reciting scripture and content in the Lord. He now sits with the Almighty Father in peace and eternal love. He has been a respected Dutchess County resident where he chose to call home since 1954. His impact on the world around him will never be forgotten. He is well loved, well respected, and he will be missed dearly.

Born in the Indian River County, Florida on August 6, 1934, he was the youngest of 6 children born to the late Tony and Beatrice (Jacob) Lucas. His siblings were Cora Monroe, Calvin Lucas, Isaiah Lucas, Tony Lucas Jr., and Carrie Donaldson. They all sit together in peace with our Lord in heaven.

Fort Pierce, FL, was where he met the love of his life, Julia Pearl Hall. They wed in 1954 and shortly after, moved to NY settling in Glenham, NY; where they began raising the first of 7 children until 1970 when they moved to Fishkill, NY.

David worked at Chemical Rubber in nearby Beacon, NY for many years before deciding to start his own business. He was the founder and operations manager of Lucas Oil in Fishkill, NY. He was also a member of the Free & Accepted Masons in Beacon, NY. He was known and loved by many in the community. He enjoyed his family, especially football outings when his sons would be playing ball. He was also excited to watch football games on the television. He enjoyed gardening and reciting some of his favorite scriptures aloud as well as his impromptu reciting of scenes from his favorite plays. He was also a collector of “many things”.

Julia Pearl who he referred to as “Pearl Darling”, predeceased him on February 10, 2018. David leaves behind the gifts of cherished memories for all of us, especially his 7 children and their families. Children: Danny K. Lucas, David Earl Jr. and wife Sylvia Lucas, Cheryl Diane and husband Ronald Smallwood, Lawrence Steven Lucas, Beverly Ann and husband Eric Ortquist, Cecilia Annette and husband Warren Montgomery, Princess Antoinette and husband Timothy Lindner; and 17 Grandchildren: Christopher Lucas, Mathew Lucas, Tiffany Lucas, Latoya Lucas, Alexis Cherry, David III Lucas, Ronald Smallwood Jr., Christopher Smallwood, Jasmine Lucas, Ashley Lucas, Erik Ortquist, Bryan Ortquist, Joy Amato, Kisha Williams, Melanie Fallin, Sean Lucas, and Destiny Lucas; and 22 Great Grandchildren: Kason, Ca'Von, Christopher, Cyere, Xavier, Kiarah, Harmony, Dominick, Antonio, Ayden, Angelo, Adrian, Liliana, Mary, Ethan, Emmie, Quinn, Kobe, Caleb, Mason, Landon, Jordan as well as many other family, extended family members and friends. He always found a reason to make new friends; so, the numbers of those who will miss him and who will think of him often are innumerable.
