It is with heavy hearts that we announce that David M. Maurer, beloved son, brother, father and friend, fondly known as "Bubber," passed away unexpectedly on August 7th, 2020 in Pueblo, Colorado. He was born April 23, 1953, in Beacon, NY to David L. Maurer and Elizabeth Mae(Betty Barber)Maurer. Dave relocated from NY to Colorado after graduating from John Jay High School to pursue his passion and love of horses by attending Colorado State University. He was a lifelong equine enthusiast and professional horseman, traveling the country to practice his craft as a riding instructor and horse trainer, eventually finding his home in Rocky Ford, Colorado, where he and beloved dog Clark, taught horsemanship to many wonderful people and their beloved horses.
Over the course of his career he served as President of the Mountain States Combined Training Association for the Northern Colorado Chapter, as coach for the Centennial Pony Club in Fort Collins, Colorado as well as the Millbrook Pony Club in Wappingers Falls, NY, as District Commissioner and Coach for the West Point Pony Club in West Point, NY, as Coach for the United States Military Academy Equestrian Team At West Point, NY, he was the instructor for The United States Military Academy at Morgan Farm, West Point, NY, a trainer and instructor at farms in Massachusetts and NJ, he also served as a groom accompanying Princess Anne in Canada on her coach, as well as training and driving teams of Clydesdales for Anheuser-Busch.
Dave was a fun-loving, kind hearted fellow with a wonderful sense of humor, as well as (for those who knew him) being quite the practical joker. He was loved dearly and is missed by many. Dave is survived by daughter Tina Boughton and family; daughter Debra Booth and family; daughter Julie Erickson and family; daughter Beth Peabody and family; sister Terry Maurer and husband Terry Jordan; sister Roberta (Maurer) Bull and husband Albert; niece Heather (Bull) Cole and husband Keith; nephew Horace Bull and wife Erika (Sorgen), as well as 7 grandchildren, several Aunts and Uncles and many Cousins.
A Celebration of Life is planned for July 1, 2023 at 11am at the First Reformed Church of Fishkill 1153 Main St. Fishkill, NY.
