HOPEWELL JUNCTION - David A. De Melo, 73, an area resident for 10 years and previously of New Rochelle, died on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Westchester Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Portugal on October 28, 1940, he was the son of the late David and Delfina (Augusta) De Melo. On February 1, 1968 in São Paulo, Brazil, David married Maria Pereira. Mrs. Melo survives at home.
An employee of Northbrook Contracting Corp. in Peekskill until his retirement in 2006, David was employed in the construction business for over 42 years.
In addition to his loving wife of 45 years, he is survived by his son, David Melo of Poughkeepsie; his brother, José De Melo and his wife Elsa of Hopewell Junction; his sister, Judite Ramos and her husband Nelson of Mechanicsville, VA; his nephews, Joe DeMelo and his wife Olivia, Robert DeMelo and his wife Maria, John DeMelo and his wife Nikki; his nieces, Caroline Ramos and Cristine Walton; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-6 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at St. Denis Cemetery.
