MILLBROOK- Dennis P. Buttinger, a Millbrook resident since December of 2021, formerly of Somers, NY & Hopewell Junction, NY, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family and devoted caregivers. He was 82.

Son of the late Louie and Friedl (Wieltsch) Buttinger, he was born in England on October 19, 1940. Dennis grew up in New Milford, Connecticut. He attended the Oakwood Friends school in Poughkeepsie, NY. Dennis received his bachelor's degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He then went on to receive his Master's in Social Work from Rutgers University in 1966.

Dennis was the second-generation owner and along with his wife Judy, directed Camp Hillcroft in Lagrangeville, NY for 35 years. Upon retirement, camp was passed onto his son, Greg and daughter-inlaw, Sally. He was on the board of the American Camp Association and NY State Camp Directors Association. More importantly he touched the lives of children and adults all over the world.

Dennis met Judy in New York, and got married August 27, 1966, in Chappaqua, New York. Dennis was on the Somer's recreation board and was active in forming the Somer's soccer program, leading to the formation of the Aztecs soccer team. His love for soccer continued throughout the years as he rarely missed his grandchildren's soccer games. He was also seen at his oldest granddaughter's dance recitals.

In his later years, he and Judy wintered in Florida where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and meeting friends. He loved to gather the family in Vermont and spend time with his five grandchildren.

Dennis is survived by his wife Judy who resides in their home in Millbrook, NY. He is also survived by his son Greg & his wife Sally of LaGrangeville, NY; his daughter Kim & her husband Ben Zimmerli of LaGrangeville, NY; his grandchildren McKinley, Megan, and Scott Buttinger, Thomas, and Christopher Zimmerli.

Calling hours will be held from 4 – 7 P.M., Thursday January 5 at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
