Dennis P. O'Connell, 59, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1985 and formerly of Riverdale, died on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Putnam Hospital Center following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Tipperary, Ireland on March 4, 1955, he was the son of Dennis and Beatrice Flynn O'Connell. He proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps. Dennis was a New York State Trooper for 21 years until his retirement in 1998 as Captain with Troop K. He was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction.
On November 2, 1980 at St. Margaret's Church in the Bronx, Dennis married Mary Anne O'Brien who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Brian O'Connell of Tuckahoe, Michelle Rafiq and her husband Sol of Bakersfield, CA, and Kevin O'Connell and his wife Julie of Oswego; and his grandchildren, Logan and Ione Rafiq.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:45am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx.
