Truett
February 5, 1946 – May 21, 2025
Dennis J. Truett (79) Wappingers Falls, NY
It is with great sadness that the Truett family announces the passing of Dennis J. Truett on May 21, 2025. Dennis was born in Hartford, CT, the son of Lee and Vera Truett, on February 5, 1946.
He was raised in Peekskill, NY where he attended The Assumption School. In 1964, he graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School where he excelled in cross country and track. He later attended Westchester Community College. Dennis was a proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command in North Dakota and Korea as an electronic warfare technician working on B-52's. His long career in the telephone industry began with New York Telephone Company. Later, he joined Sylvan Lake Telephone. He ended his career of 36 years with AT&T.
Dennis was an avid and award-winning photographer of the Hudson Valley. He enjoyed year-round sailing as a member of The Chelsea Yacht Club where he participated in regattas with his sailboats, "Summer Wind" and "Storm King." In winter months, he was a member of The Hudson River Ice Yacht Club. He sailed an ice yacht he built himself. Its craftmanship was admired by many. Dennis was also a classic car enthusiast who cherished his '67 Corvette. He also finely built a replica 1964 Shelby Cobra. Prior to building cars, he built 5 family Soap Box Derby racing cars for all three of his children and his two brothers. He often received awards for their superior craftsmanship. He loved the thrill of competition and proudly advanced with his children to national competitions three times.
Lastly, his greatest passion was his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 54 years, Carol, and father to his son Christopher (Kimberly), daughter Jennifer (Michael) and son Stephen. He was endlessly proud of his children and grandchildren Katelyn, Meaghan, Jenna, Shannon and Brendan. Nothing made him happier than hearing the contagious laughter of his grandchildren during beach vacations and family gatherings. He loved to share his wisdom and advice with them and often instilled the value of putting family first.
Dennis is survived by his brothers Ron (Vickie) and Kevin (Leigh). He was predeceased by his parents Lee and Vera and his sisters Sandra Ritornato (John) and Linda Carullo (Carmine). Private services have taken place. A celebration of his life will take place in July. Donations in his honor can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
