Detlef Karl Promnitz, 67, an area resident since 1972 and formerly of New York City, died on Monday, March 28, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Germany on December 18, 1943, he was the son of Fritz Promnitz of Poughkeepsie and the late Ruth Swartz Promnitz.
He was a graduate of Aviation High School in Long Beach and Dutchess Community College and served from 1964 to 1970 in the US Navy aboard the USS Amphion. Detlef was employed as an electrical engineer for IBM, East Fishkill for 24 years.
On June 9, 1972 in Fishkill, Detlef married Janet Wisniewski who survives at home. In addition to his wife and father, he is also survived by his sons, Eric Promnitz and his wife Krista of Highland and David Promnitz of Beacon; his stepdaughter, Wendy Biktjorn and her husband, Gary of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Zurawik, Jamie Truncali and John David Promnitz; and his great-granddaughters, Hayleigh Biktjorn and Bryelle Truncali.
He was predeceased by his sister, Evelyn Promnitz and his great-grandson, Anthony Truncali.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 am at the funeral home followed by interment in LaGrangeville Cemetery.
