HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Devon G. Williams, Jr., 18, passed away on April 17, 2022, Easter Sunday, surrounded by his family after a 10-month courageous battle with cancer.
Devon was born in Binghamton, NY on November 2, 2003. He was a 2021 graduate of Arlington High School and was currently studying Meteorology at the University at Albany.
DJ always enjoyed playing sports. He played football for the Wappinger's Pop Warner Giants, then the Hudson Valley Admirals of the Taconic Football League, and the Arlington High School Football Team. He was also part of the St. Columba CYO Basketball program for many years and played lacrosse for AYL-845Lax and Arlington High School as a freshman. While at Arlington High School, DJ also ran track and was a member of the band.
DJ was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and LA Clippers. He loved life and lived his to the fullest. He was always about friends and family and left an indelible mark on everyone he touched. His family, teachers, coaches and friends will always remember him as being genuine, kind, generous, adventurous, loving, courageous, and fearless.
DJ is survived by his parents, Devon and Marlene (Brown) Williams, Sr.; his siblings, Sherene Williams, Shanielle Williams, Nicole Williams, and Nicolas Williams; his grandparents, Stanley and Florence Thomas and Albert and Reta Brown; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; Godmother, Denise Abrams and countless friends, especially his best buddy, Liam Vaitkus.
The family would like to thank the community for their love, support, and compassion during Devon's illness, especially Krista Jones and the entire staff at Sparrow's Nest, the Yorktown Police Department, Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC, MD Anderson in Houston and the entire Arlington High School community.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 4 – 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 10 am at St. Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, Lagrangeville. The family asks that everyone wear something green to the services since it was Devon's favorite color.
A scholarship is being set up at Arlington High School in memory of Devon for students with inclinations towards the sciences, especially biology, marine biology, and atmospheric sciences/meteorology.
