Obituary

Diane M. Urfer , 82, a resident of Port Orange, Fl and formerly of Williamstown, MA, Hopewell Junction, NY, and Kinnelon , NJ, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on September 16, 2025.

Born in Bennington, VT on April 25, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Beatrice (Paquin) Stratton. Diane was a Registered Nurse working at both Vassar Brothers and St. Francis Hospitals. Following her retirement, she was the owner and operator of Upscale.

Diane had been a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction where she was a religious education teacher. She also volunteered with the Girl Scouts, Open Airways and Guiding Eyes for the Blind. She also enjoyed doing pet therapy at local hospitals.

On April 20, 1963 at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, VT, Diane married the love of her life, Ernest N. Urfer , who predeceased her on July 12, 1999.

Diane is survived by her children and their spouses, Carol and Michael Elstien, David S. and Holly Urfer , Glenn E. and Tracy Urfer; her grandchildren, Daniel and Sarah Elstien, Austin and Cameron Urfer, Trevor, Brendan, Kaitlyn, and Logan Haynes; her great-grandson, Zephaniah Haynes; and her siblings and their families, Richard E. Stratton and his daughter Chaffie Stratton-Cross, Peter J. Stratton, and Beatrice C. Welch, her husband Robert and their daughters, Nicole Long-Luczynski, Victoria Welch and Emily Welch. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Joan Stratton, and her niece, Kristen Long.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2- 5pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
