The daughter of immigrant parents Virginia (Arvanetes) Kourakis and Chris Kourakis, Dixie Kourakis Moustakas was born into the Greek Orthodox Faith on February 19, 1944 and went home to be with the Lord on February 2, 2021.
Dixie attended Poughkeepsie Schools and as a teenager she worked in her father's restaurant and continued on as a successful business owner in the food industry. Dixie was most known for her part in the 84 Diner located in Fishkill, NY. Dixie became active in her beloved Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church as a child attending Sunday School and singing in the choir. Later, she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Director, Greek Dance Instructor, and served on the Church Board Council in various capacities including President. Dixie led and participated in fundraiser events for all areas of the church.
Dixie was known to be generous with family, friends and strangers alike. Dixie lived life to the fullest, spending Summers in Greece for many years, attending church and visiting family both in Greece and in the States. Dixie enjoyed get-togethers, music and holidays with family, friends and extended family and was known to be the life of these events.
Dixie is survived by many, including her eldest and beloved son George and beloved daughter-in-law Marisa Moustakas; her beloved grandsons, Anthony and Marco; her youngest son Demetreus and his wife Kellie; granddaughters, Evthoxia, Kayleigh and Alexis and great-grandson Johnathan; sister Gina Kourakis (Gary) Christiana; nephew Christopher (Elizabeth) Christiana along with their children Alexandra and Jack; nephew Mark Christiana (Godson); nephew Louie Kourakis Christiana and Rosie; sister Christine Mattes; niece Maria Mattes and her daughter Nysa Green; nephew Steven (Kim) Mattes; nephew Chris (Kathy) Mattes along with their children, Garrisson (Dannielle) Mattes, Alyse (Tommy) Vanikiotis and their children Gina and Deo; her cousin Rebecca Marino and her daughter Katina Marino; as well as many extended but close relatives of the Moustakas family and many godchildren and friends.
Dixie was totally devoted to her two sisters Christine and Gina. They were her best friends and she enjoyed them always. As the eldest of the three, she was not shy as to advise the sisters as to what they should or should not do. Many times, Dixie would show up with advice, wanted or unwanted. How blessed to be a part of the three sisters in this life. Close family members will not only miss her but will be truly lost for a long time without her.
Private family services were held. There will be a traditional memorial service to be held at a later date. Donations may be made in her memory to Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 S. Grand Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
