Obituary

Amenia – Dolores Ann Wiegard, 85, a lifelong resident of Dutchess County, died peacefully on October 3, 2022 at Sharon Hospital following a short illness. Although she spent the last 12 years of her life in Amenia living with her son and his family, she spent her first 73 years in Wappingers Falls.

Born in Poughkeepsie on August 5, 1937, she was the daughter of Giacomo and Mary Rose (Lopez) Sanfilippo. Dolores worked with her husband as the office manager of their family business, Harald Wiegard Plumbing and Heating for 35 years. Her career also included working for IBM, Sears, Sam's Club and Walmart where she was a pharmacy assistant in Fishkill.

On August 7, 1960 at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls, Dolores married Harald Wiegard who predeceased her on July 12, 1996. She was also predeceased by her son, John J. Wiegard, on July 21, 2016.

Oma, as she was lovingly called by many, loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading and cross stitching, but she was known for her baking. Each Christmas, Oma's peanut butter, Italian, and chocolate kiss cookies often magically disappeared before dinner ever began. Thankfully, she shared her baking secrets with her children and grandchildren!

Dolores is survived by her sons, Harold and Kathleen Wiegard, and Michael Wiegard and Henry Pollinger; her daughter-in-law, Bonnie McHoul Wiegard; her grandchildren, Megan Hodge, Kate Quimby, Jacob Wiegard, Daniel Wiegard, David Wiegard, Brian Wiegard, Jacqueline Wiegard, Mary Rose Pollinger-Wiegard and Shaun Pollinger-Wiegard; and her great-grandchildren, Harper, Colby, Paisley and Molly Hodge, and Charlee, Miles and Maisyn Quimby.

The family will be forever grateful to the staff of 2 North at Sharon Hospital for the care and love they extended to Dolores and her family during her final days.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 9-11am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.

Memorial donations may be made to the Officer John Wiegard Memorial Scholarship, c/o Our Lady of Lourdes High School, 131 Boardman Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
