Obituary

Joe Galletta

June 22, 1934 - December 3, 2020

Born in Beacon, NY in 1934 to Dominic and Marion Galletta, Dominic Joseph (Joe) Galletta was the oldest of six children. Dad died in Elmira NY at Arnot Hospital after a brief battle with Covid-19. Dad leaves behind his wife of 64 years Joann, his four kids and their families.

Diane (Galletta) and Steve Hazlett and grandkids Justin, John, Lianne and Ben
Mark and Myong Galletta and grandkids Jack, Sam and Elise
Matt and Sheri Galletta and grandkids Enzo and Tezza

Dad was predeceased by brother Bob and sister Michelle and is survived by sisters Mary Lou and Jeanne and brother Rich.

Dad was the first member of the Galletta family to graduate college (Manhattan College) class of 1956. Dad made a promise to his mother that he would not get married until he graduated college and he kept his word. He graduated in May of 1956 and got married in June of 1956. He spent his entire professional career with IBM as an engineer. He was an avid gardener and loved to cook and fortunately his love of cooking has been passed on to his kids. In the last few years as Mom’s condition deteriorated due to Alzheimers, Dad’s love for Mom was stronger than ever as he stayed by her side to ensure she was getting the care that she needed. Dad was very proud of all his grandkids and was always eager to hear what they were doing both in school and in their extracurricular activities. His grandkids and kids will really miss him but we know someday we will see each other again. We would like to thank everyone for celebrating the Mass today for Dad and we will hold a Galletta family reunion once the pandemic is over and it’s safe for all of us to gather together.
