Dominick M. Betro, 86, a longtime resident of East Fishkill and formerly of Brooklyn, died on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Italy on September 22, 1928, he was the son of Vincenzo and Teresina Dominiani Betro. Dominick enlisted in the US Army at the end of WWII and served as a medical technician in what was to become the state of Alaska. He was a self-employed mason who did many foundations and brick fronts of homes in the area. He built his own home in East Fishkill. His early hobbies included boating, photography, and calligraphy. He had a lifelong love of playing the clarinet and saxophone, and always enjoyed dancing.
On July 22, 1950, Dominick married Lena Maduri who predeceased him on September 29, 1972. He was also predeceased by his son, Vincent Betro, his sisters Susan, Victoria, and Catherine, and a brother, Bruno. He is survived by his children, Jean Mykytenko and her husband John of Hopewell Junction, Michael Betro and his wife Darlene of LaGrange, and Peter Betro of Staatsburg; his brother Anthony Betro and his wife Patricia; his grandchildren, Dr. James Mykytenko and his wife Anna, Jenny Mykytenko, Marissa St. John and her husband Steven, and Daniel Betro; and many nieces and nephews.
