Obituary

HILLSIDE LAKE – Donald F. Marks, 81, an area resident since 1965, passed away on May 13, 2015 at home. He previously lived in Binghamton and Amsterdam.

Born in Amsterdam on July 16, 1933, he was the son of the late George and Thelma (Engle) Marks. He proudly served our country in the US Navy from 1951-1955. On May 30, 1954 at St. Michael’s Church in Amsterdam, Donald married Elizabeth “Betty” D’Alessandro Marks who survives at home.

Formerly employed by GE in Schenectady and Johnson City, Donald had been employed as a manager at IBM in East Fishkill for 28 years until he retired in 1992, and was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He was a parishioner at St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction. Donald was a member of the Hillside Lake Fire Department where he served as Past President. He belonged to the American Legion in Poughkeepsie and volunteered for the Little League. He was a former president of the Hillside Lake Property Association. An avid golfer who was well known at Dogwood Knolls, Donald also enjoyed hunting.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, Donald is survived by his children, Carolee Caragliano and her husband Peter of Staten Island, Kelly Pomarico and her husband Greg of Beacon, and Tracey Marks and her life partner Parys Johnson of Brooklyn; his grandchildren, Scott and Melissa Glazer, Jonathan Pomarico and Frances Mercado, Gina and Jim Hinton, Elizabeth Marks, and Danielle Pomarico; his great-grandchildren, Scott Glazer Jr., Andrew Glazer, Evan Glazer, and Emma Hinton; his sister, Linda Zacharewicz and her husband Stan of Clifton Park; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anngela and Ron Rusik; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82 Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by military honors.
