Obituary

Donald J. “Mac” McGrath, a lifelong local area resident, died at Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Peekskill on Thursday, August 22, 2013. He was 82.
Son of the late Thomas J. and Rose Ward McGrath, he was born in Cold Spring on November 7, 1930. Mac graduated from Haldane High School and then attended Syracuse University and Krissler Business Institute.
For 36 years, he was employed by I.B.M., having worked throughout Westchester County, and retired in 1988 as an Executive Manager of their world trade department. That same year, he was elected the Town Clerk of Philipstown and served in that position until 2003. An active member of the community, Mac was also a member of the Cold Spring Lions Club, Philipstown Democratic Committee and also served on the Haldane School Board for several years. For nearly his entire life, he was a parishioner of Our Lady of Loretto Church in Cold Spring.
On November 17, 1956, he married Ann Cone in Cold Spring. He was predeceased by his wife on October 13, 2006.
Survivors include his son, Thomas J. McGrath of Lancaster Co., Pa; his daughter, Ann McGrath Gallagher & her husband Ethan of Cold Spring; his daughter, Irene “Renie” McGrath & her husband Stephen Schweikhart of Cold Spring; his daughter, Patricia McGrath of Poughkeepsie; his daughter, Christine McGrath of Poughkeepsie; his daughter, Susan McGrath of New York City; his grandchildren, Caitlin & her husband Lt. Mattison McCarty, Christine McGrath, Noah Gallagher, Ian Gallagher, Aiden Gallagher, Caroline Schweikhart, Evan Schweikhart, Kenneth Trimble IV and Kasey Battaglia; his great-granddaughter, Peyton Ann; and many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives & friends.
Mac was also predeceased by a brother, Thomas Ward McGrath, in 1965.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 25 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 26 at Our Lady of Loretto Church, 24 Fair Street, Cold Spring. Interment will held privately and at the convenience at the family in Cold Spring Cemetery.
