Obituary

Donald M. Moruzzi, 76, a resident of the Town of Wappinger for approximately 50 years, died on Friday, February 25, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born on November 1, 1934 in Manhattan, he was the son of Mario and Josephine (Masciale) Moruzzi. He served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1955 aboard the USS Siboney CVE-112 as a Machinery Repairman 3rd Class.

He was employed as a New York State Trooper from 1957 to 1980, retiring after 23 years with the rank of Lieutenant. From 1980 to 2000, he worked for the United States Department of Transportation, Motor Carrier Safety Administration as an Investigator enforcing compliance with the laws and regulations for interstate transportation of buses, trucks and hazardous materials.

On September 28, 1958, Don married Ruth Boernsen in Garden City South, Long Island. She survives at home. He is also survived by his son, Donald W. Moruzzi and his wife Anna of Carle Place, Long Island; a daughter, Susan Bernardi and her husband Michael of Poughquag; grandchildren, Vincent and Sara; and his brothers, Robert in West Babylon and Gerald in Ithaca.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
