WAPPINGERS FALLS – Donald A. Valk, 80, a resident of Wappingers Falls for 33 years, died on Monday, November 7, 2011 at the Elant at Wappingers Falls.
Born in Palenville on September 3, 1931, he was the son of the late Calvin and Ella Valk. He grew up in Palenville before moving to the Hudson Valley.
Donald proudly served our country in the US Army. He retired in 1996 from the Spackenkill Union Free School District and had formerly been employed as a Precision Tool Maker at Schatz Federal Bearing in Poughkeepsie.
On June 12, 1976, he married Lorraine Travis at the Hopewell Reformed Church, where he was a member. Mrs. Valk survives at home. Donald enjoyed camping and taking long car rides to Vermont and the Catskills. He and his wife loved traveling, especially throughout the United States.
In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his brother, Richard Valk of Palenville and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, Calvin, Harry, and George and his sisters, Nina and Doris.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 – 4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10 am at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery with military honors.
