Obituary

Donald H. Wood, 83, a resident of Hopewell Junction and previously of Missouri, passed away on June 23, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.

Born on December 19, 1932 in Evanston, Illinois, Donald was the son of Herbert and Gladys (McCauley) Wood.

On December 29, 1962 in Bristol, PA, he married the love of his life Helen Byers who predeceased him on September 29, 2000.

Donald proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a Senior Engineer for IBM for 34 years working in Kingston, Poughkeepsie and retiring from East Fishkill in 1991. During his career, he was named the inventor of several patents. Donald was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill where he served as a lector, usher, Eucharistic Minister and a member of the parish council. He was part of the Cursillo Movement and the REC prison ministry. He was very involved with Birthright of Dutchess County as a volunteer, treasurer and managing their Fishkill office. He loved woodworking, electronics and working on cars.

One of his greatest passions was being involved in the lives of his daughters and grandchildren.

Donald is survived by his children, Mary Muth and her husband Bill of LaGrangeville, Amy Parks and her husband Don of Sherburne, Theresa Athanas and her husband Ted of Hyde Park and Karen Wood; his grandchildren, Teddy Athanas, Sarah Muth, Robert Muth, Andrew Parks, and Douglas Parks; his siblings, Fr. Robert Wood, CM, Leroy Wood, Joseph Wood, John Wood and his wife Elaine, Ruth Ellen Wood, Barbara Sanders and her husband Michael, Dorothy Gleich and her husband Thom; his sister in law, Carol Wood. In addition to his wife, he is predeceased by his siblings, Herbert Wood, Francis Wood, and Maryann Redmond.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
