Donato D. Battista, 96, an area resident since 1996 and formerly of Mount Vernon, died peacefully on March 10, 2026 at the Taconic at Hopewell.

Born in Casalciprano, Italy on July 21, 1929, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Maria Cristina Battista. Donato was a master finish carpenter working at the Bronx Children's Hospital for 25 years until his retirement in 1994. He had been a parishioner of St. Columba Church and enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Donato was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Giovanna Collito, who died on October 17, 2023. He is survived by his children, Gerald Battista, Lucio Battista and his wife Elizabeth, Joseph Battista and his wife Carol, and Maria Russo; his grandchildren, Danny Lagana, Kim Lagana, Lucio Battista and Giuseppe Russo; and his great-granddaughter, Rosalina Maria.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3- 6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a funeral service at 5: 30pm .

Memorial donations may be made in his honor to Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association.
