Wappingers Falls – Donna Kunca-Benson, an area resident since 2001, passed away at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital on Tuesday, November 9th, with her daughter at her side, after a long illness. She was 62.
Donna was born on December 6, 1958, in Yonkers, NY to George John and Carol Ann (Pressner) Kunca. She attended St. Mary's School and Yonkers High School, graduating in 1976.
Donna was a stay-at-home mom for a short time, before working for 10 years as the office manager in a small construction company. She then worked for ShopRite Supermarkets, in both Yonkers and Fishkill, for 23 years. She loved her SRS family - her co-workers and customers alike - and was devastated when she had to retire due to health concerns in 2017.
But, what mattered most to Donna was family. Her greatest joy in life was her girls. She loved her daughter and three nieces more than anything in this world. It was her life's work making sure all four girls were happy and knew her love for each of them was unconditional.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ann Benson, of Wappingers Falls; her sisters, Deborah (Nicholas) DiFalco of Wappingers Falls and Stephanie (Donald) Stroffolino of Middletown and her three beautiful nieces, Carol-Ann DiFalco (and fiancé Kyle) of South Bend, In., Michelle DiFalco (and boyfriend Drew) of Wappingers Falls and Kade Stroffolino of Middletown/Wappingers Falls.
Donna was predeceased by her loving mother, Carol, in January 2013.
Donna's daughter would like to extend her thanks and gratitude to both the ER and CCU Staff at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. The kindness, concern and compassion shown not only for Donna, but Barbara, during this extremely difficult time will always be remembered and appreciated.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 5-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill, NY.
